As Great Southern Grammar celebrated the school’s 25th birthday, the GSG Foundation was launched on Saturday 10 June 2023.
The Foundation exists to safeguard and strengthen the school’s long-term interests. The Foundation oversees investment in specific capital projects, teaching and learning initiatives, and a scholarship programme to support students in financial hardship.
Its overarching goal is to secure and maintain a healthy reserve of funds for school initiatives not covered by government grants or annual fees—those special extras that make GSG such a great place to be.
GSG Foundation Chair Gary Philpott said the Foundation is run by a board of six volunteers, and it is connected but independent of the school.
“Our vision when setting up the Foundation was to engage the entire community in a culture of giving that strengthens our school, supports our teachers and inspires our students,” Mr Philpott said.
“We aim to build up a sizable amount of money to invest prudently and according to our ethical investment policy.”
“Our rules state any interest and income we earn from the capital we invest must be used to pay for scholarships and bursaries.”
Mr Philpott said this will shift the financial burden away from the school to the Foundation.
“Obviously, we need a large amount of money to invest to make a major impact on the school but From little things big things grow.”
