Music Scholarships

Music Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate a high level of musicianship to assist them to maximise their musical education.

The Music auditions take place at Great Southern Grammar on Friday 31 March 2017. Please find an application formhere

Students may audition on any instrument and are required to present two contrasting pieces and some technical work, and three scales or exercises appropriate to their developmental level. Students may choose to perform on more than one instrument, in which case one piece on each instrument is appropriate.

Music Scholarship recipients are required to be a member of at least one GSG ensemble and will be encouraged to participate in as much music at the School and within the Albany community as they can manage while balancing their musical and academic commitments.

Students need to be available for all school ensemble performances, such as Easter service, Foundation Day services, annual concerts, award ceremonies, assemblies and Chapel services. Some of these events occur outside of school hours. Students are expected to demonstrate an ongoing high level of commitment to their musical development maintained through weekly individual lessons with a specified teacher. Musical development is best maintained through weekly individual lessons.

Music Scholarship recipients are required to undertake Specialist Music as an elective in Years Eight to Ten and undertake the ATAR Music Course in Western Art Music in Years Eleven and Twelve. The Year Eleven and Twelve ATAR course constitutes a university entrance subject. It is expected that students will include this course as a subject in Years Eleven and Twelve.
