Curriculum

From Kindergarten to Year Six, Junior School offers a progressive and rigorous curriculum focused on developing successful learners, confident and creative individuals and active and informed citizens using the Australian Curriculum and The Early Years Learning Framework. Emphasis is on developing literacy and numeracy skills as a foundation for lifelong learning, along with the use of Harvard University’s Thinking Routines to extend and deepen students' thinking across learning areas.

Our exceptional, committed, team of teachers and assistants work collaboratively to develop rich, diverse and engaging learning opportunities that both support and extend students to reach their full potential. We also encourage establishing good study skills while fostering in each student a personal aspiration to continue learning and seize each day of opportunity that Great Southern Grammar provides .

Children’s breadth of learning and interests are developed through specialist expertise in the learning areas of Music, Languages, Christian Studies, Physical Education, Health, Library, Art and Drama.

Beyond the classroom, GSG Junior School offers a wealth of experiences for its students. As part of their school day, students can elect to take part in instrumental music lessons, choirs and ensembles.

Experiential learning is promoted through class excursions and the Outdoor Education programme, which includes camps and sleepovers in Years Three to Six, along with a sailing programme especially for Year Six students.

After school we offer extra‐curricular opportunities, including basketball, netball, hockey, football (soccer), cricket, AFL, swimming, surfing, Zumba and tennis, as well as Lego and Art Clubs. This holistic approach to educating the whole child is just part of the Grammar difference.
