The following sports are available for selection.

  • Basketball
  • Tennis
  • Rowing
  • Swim Squad
  • Equestrian

Competitive is offered to interested students. Transport from school to the courts is provided, with parents asked to collect their child/ren. You will be advised which tennis court your child will attend.

Competitive Tennis commences early in Term One each year. GSG enters the GSSSSA Interschool competition and, when successful, attends the Sunsmart Country Schools Classis Tennis Tournaments, the Herbert Edwards Cup or the Academy Plate in Perth.

Great Southern Grammar has a long tradition of rowing, since 2000. Students meet in the early hours of the morning at the Albany Rowing Club at Kalgan Bridge.

Experienced and Intermediate rowers participate in this programme. Beginners are offered the opportunity through an elective in Year Eight.

The Bunbury Head of the River Regatta is attended by rowing students in early April each year.

Students also have the opportunity to attend the All Schools Regatta in Perth.

Swim Squad

Great Southern Grammar Swim Squad offers swimming training to interested students who have passed Stage Seven in swimming.

Training sessions are available twice a week at Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre during Terms One and Term Four. A bus service is available to transport students back to school after training.

Pool entry costs and participation in events as members of the Swim Squad are paid by the School.

The GSG Swim Squad aims provide a sport for students where they can build their fitness whilst developing specific competitive swimming skills for use in school swim meets. The focus is not solely on competition, but also participation and encouraging students to use and develop swimming as a lifelong tool for healthy living, with the opportunity and privilege to attend some competitive events outside the school programme.

Each year GSG enters a team in the Interschool State Equestrian Championships. Riders compete at the Capel One Day Event held in March, with the Interschool Championships in April held in Perth. The championships consist of Dressage, Show Jumping and Show Horse. Riders who excel at these championships have the opportunity to be selected for the National Championships and to represent Western Australia. Riders go through a selection process and, once the team is formed, training sessions are provided by the School prior to competitions. GSG was awarded the Overall WA Interschool Equestrian Championships Champion School in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014.
