Great Southern Grammar has strong links with Albany's Navy Cadet Unit, Training Ship Vancouver.
This provides a challenging and exciting cocurricular option for Middle and Senior School students as participants learn valuable life and leadership skills while engaging in nautical activities and ceremonies.
Activities include sailing and power-boating, with the opportunity to gain sailing and boating qualifications; outdoor expedition camps; and visits onboard RAN ships when in port.
TS Vancouver cadets have completed sea voyages aboard the tall ship Leeuwin and the STS Young Endeavour.
Participation in parade drills and memorial ceremonies teaches cadets many important life skills, such as respect for others and self, self-discipline and team work.
Cadets meet weekly during term at the TS Vancouver unit behind the Brig Amity on the Albany foreshore. Membership is open to all young people aged from the year they turn 13 years of age to 20 years of age.
